[Edit]In 2013, an unknown country singer/songwriter from suburban Illinois released a self-financed video for his debut single, a catchy summertime campfire anthem with a twist called "All American Boy." Several million YouTube views later, Steve Grand was touted by many as mainstream country's first openly gay star. Riding the crest of his viral success, Grand launched a Kickstarter campaign that raised over a quarter of a million dollars to fund his self-released debut album; it arrived in March 2015 and made a definitive splash on Billboard's Top 200 pop charts.
