While contemporaries like Doug Cameron and Charlie Bisharat spice up their surroundings with fellow musicians, Kindler is often stranded by his self-created spacey atmospheres. Kindler's attractive timbre and classical training are evident in several glowing passages, but he too often forgets about melodic considerations, meandering through uninvolving, drawn-out sessions that will cure even the worst insomnia. Its a shame too...the few times Kindler considers using backbeat and global panache (such as the flamenco tinged "Hymn for Bosnia" and the inspiring "The Elephant Child") he connects quite seductively and energetically. New age is a much maligned genre, saved mostly by artists who have a handle on irresistible tunes and cool rhythmic patterns. Unfortunately, despite some flashy technique, Kindler seems only in tune with the musical alpha waves in his own mind and unfortunately disregards the listener's desire for something memorable to latch onto.
