The second installment in Steve Roach’s Fever Dreams trilogy opens the sound quite a bit. The emphasis is still on music meant for deep relaxation and space travel. With the exception of the 21-minute title track, the pieces are on the brief side. The inclusion of Jennifer Grais on voice adds a chorale aspect amongst the synthetic heavenly blends. “The Wounded Healer” begins things much like the first volume of Fever Dreams, with a minimalist rhythm punctuating the serene keyboards and treated guitars. “The Energy Well” adds additional rhythms to the lunar sway and slowly builds to an animated rainstorm. “Opening the Space” works with Roach’s didgeridoo and Grais’ voice to create a compact piece of eerie tribal and space projections. “Heart’s Core” adds percussion reminiscent of Roach’s album Core. Again, Grais adds an extra dimension. “Fire’s Burning” works with a hypnotic weave. “Metamorphic” emphasizes spacey treated guitars. Everything leads up to the epic title track, where Roach’s easeful essence ghost dances ever slowly into subliminal time.
