[Edit]Even before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, there were people who were afraid of flying — and after 9/11, their fears were intensified. Of course, there are also those who never feared flying to begin with and haven't allowed terrorism to keep them off of airplanes. They might reason that heart disease, hypertension, high blood pressure, cancer and diabetes (not to mention earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes) will inevitably kill a lot more people than terrorism or aviation disasters — so why not brush up on your Spanish and decide whether you want to fly to Madrid or Barcelona? But for people who are seriously afraid to fly, those sort of arguments don't work. It all comes down to the fact that different people have different fears and anxieties — the same person who thinks flying is dangerous may not think twice about smoking two packs of cigarettes a day and eating french fries morning, noon and night. And those who do have that fear of flying are the target audience of Flycalm: A Sound Solution for Stress Free Living. Favoring a very peaceful, tranquil ambience, this new age release is designed to help flyers cope with their fears. The brains behind Flycalm are Dr. Steven Halpern (who composed the music) and psychologist Steven Leeds, who wrote the words; together, they try to get into the minds of worried flyers and help them calm down, relax and think pleasant thoughts (whether they're in an airport or actually on board an airplane). Flycalm, which has a stereotypically new age outlook, isn't meant to convert those who have only a casual interest in new age music — Halpern and Leeds had a specific audience in mind. And if this CD makes it easier for fearful flyers (including business travelers) to get to their destinations, they've done their part to help the economy.
