Released in the summer of 1983, when most bands were marketed to MTV, Texas Flood proved that the blues still had an audience—and that an exciting young group with a blazing guitarist could spark a new generation to take an interest in these time-tested chord changes and grooves. "Love Struck Baby" and "Pride and Joy" were convincing Vaughan originals, while Larry Davis' title track and Howlin' Wolf's "Tell Me" proved Stevie knew his history. For the 30th anniversary of Stevie Ray Vaughan's debut album, Texas Flood, it's been issued with its original 10 tracks, along with the bonus cut "Tin Pan Alley (a.k.a. Roughest Place in Town)" from the 1999 reissue. There are also nine tracks from a concert at Ripley's Music Hall in Philadelphia on Oct. 20, 1983, where the band members showed that the album was just a warm-up for the live show; they spread out and improvised as only master musicians could.
