Stevie Wonder wrote in a new musical language with 1972's masterful Talking Book. He had an impeccable touch with a love song, but the ’70s brought social consciousness to the fore. Drugs, urban turmoil, class disparity, crises in spirit, and politics weigh on Wonder's mind. He never loses himself to apathy or bitterness, preferring to find a beautiful escape in the glorious tonal clusters of "Visions," the raw excitement underpinning the classic "Living For The City" and the levitating groove of "Higher Ground.” A career highpoint in a career marked with many peaks.
