While the deluxe edition adds 40-plus minutes of professional video footage and a digital booklet with liner notes, photos, and credits, this standard edition features the complete 40-track live concert. Forty years after the fact, Graham Nash and producer Joel Bernstein assembled this collection, sifting through nine concerts from the legendary 1974 tour. They recreated the three-hour-plus concert experience, assembling electric-to-acoustic-to-electric sets that rely surprisingly little on the CSNY catalog and more on the individual solo accomplishments and new material that was being written. While the four men soon grew disenchanted with each other and the tour itself, these recordings point out an exquisite rock ’n’ roll musicianship second to none, as Stephen Stills and Neil Young go toe to toe on electric guitars and join with David Crosby and Nash for the harmonies. Whether it’s Young working through “On the Beach” or Crosby singing his personal blues on “Almost Cut My Hair,” this is a set for the ages.
