Raphy Leavitt and La Selecta manage to transform their usual stilted musical style into one of their most inventive albums. Wisely, Leavitt kept his focus on humane topics at bay. The tune "Voices del Africa" stands out as one of his most innovative (the blasting animal horns are, by the way, real). His humor is noted in the tune as they try to relay an African proverb with their percussion instruments. "Danzón Guajira" is an attempt to blend Cuban genres. "Mundo Incierto" and "Niñez" illustrate confusion of values and lost innocence. One of the band's most accomplished recordings, as they still retain public acceptance and popularity. ~ José A.
