More Constant Than the Gods

On More Constant Than the Gods, the third full-length outing from SubRosa, the Salt Lake City doom merchants show off their knack for hooking listeners in with an album of enthralling mini-epics. While many of the tracks come in at over 11 minutes, you won't find much in the way of wasted time here, as every moment of the record is used to establish a sense of dramatic tension and atmosphere. In a genre like doom, where giant, overdriven guitars are used to lull listeners into a stoney trance, little details like actually being interesting can be easy to overlook. Fortunately, SubRosa have shown themselves again and again to be one of the most captivating bands to rise to prominence in the post-Isis world of artful and thoughtfully crafted doom and post-metal.
