In the early 2000s, there was a current trend in music to combine hard rock with rap. The leaders of the pack in this genre are certainly groups like Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock. Both of those approaches really seem to focus more on the rock with less of a true rap texture. Sunny Ledfurd's album seems to more closely align itself with the urban street rap sound and all that brings with it. This album has a more real sort of street sound than the aforementioned groups. That includes a lot more cursing and even the use of the "n word." That latter part might be a bit of a problem for the group since when people like Jennifer Lopez have done that, they have lost some credibility and respect with the black community. It is really a part of the sound that Sunny Ledfurd is emulating, but one has to question how much they will alienate the potential listeners of African-American heritage. That could be a big gamble for the group since it would seem with their closer ties to a true rap sound that they might be in line to attract a larger group of black people to their music. Really, taken past that, this group's take on the hybrid of rap and rock is quite original and very well-done.
