Hailing from Alaska by way of New Orleans, Supagroup preaches the gospel of hard rock boogie as handed down in the psalms of AC/DC. Helmed by the brothers Lee, this geographical anomaly was silent for almost two years before returning to action with 2001's super-ironic Rock & Roll Tried to Ruin My Life, an album that actually revisits some of their stronger material from yesteryear. And though it was produced by indie maven Jack Endino, all of the hallmarks of a typical AC/DC platter can be found here, from the power boogie and choral shout-outs of opener "Ready to Go" to the slow-driving blues of "Murder, Suicide, Death" ("The Jack" all over again) to the skull-bashing riffs of "She's Hot (I'm on a Roll)" to the wild distortion of the title track. Throughout, older sibling Chris Lee alternates plenty of double entendres with downright scatological musings, while baby brother Benji regularly throttles his six-string with blistering leads — most notably on the explosive "Back By Popular Demand." All in all, Rock & Roll Tried to Ruin My Life delivers plenty of raucous fun for your buck.
