Details
[Edit]Susan James has such a wonderful voice for purebred country music and intimate folk dalliances that she’s won herself hardcore fans and great admiration among her fellow musicians. With a degree in Ethnomusicology from UCLA and a ton of touring under her belt, James approaches music with a sizable heart to accompany her stellar guitar skills. “On Your Side” has vocal highlights that defy gravity, while the roots-rock laced takes on “Thank You Tomorrow” and “Cold Moon On the Highway” tackle the road with grace. “Calling Mr. Zimmerman,” surely a message to Bob Dylan, has a wonderfully rich melody and an upbeat enthusiasm that resembles the cheerful pop of Southern California’s Bangles. “How To Fix a Broken Girl” sounds as if it were written for Emmylou Harris; its gentle natural is underlined by a sweet violin and simple acoustic guitar. “Goin’ To California” has a hippie-trippy sing-along feel. “Falling Waltz 2” has a thrilling organ for company. James throws genuine enthusiasm into subjects that never grow old.
