70's, Vol. 2 - Sylvain Cossette

Gaining success with covers of established hits from decades past, the Lost Fingers, a Gypsy jazz group, scored big in 2008 with transformations of '80s pop hits. Similarly, Sylvain Cossette, a singer/songwriter with a lengthier career, successfully took on hits of the '70s in 2007 and released a follow-up recording in 2008 covering more ground. Cossette doesn't transform the songs so much as attempt to render them in a more exact replica of the original recordings. There's a hint of a Québécois accent in his delivery, but otherwise the covers are shockingly true to the originals. Cossette and his band do their best to capture not only the mood and form of the pieces, but the smaller accents and ornaments embedded in the works.
