Repping for Detroit, Slum Village bubbled up in the mid-'90s, recording Fantastic Vol. 1, which, though not officially released until nearly a decade later, fast became a favorite of underground heads around the world. They put out more albums between 2000 and 2010 but also dealt with the double tragedy of losing chief producer J Dilla (first to a solo career and then to lupus), as well as co-founding emcee Baatin, who passed away in 2009. T3 is the original group's sole survivor and continues to hold the torch with his solo joints. 3riller the EP is short but sweet at just five tracks, but it delivers the goods through dramatic production and strong rhyme schemes. The frantic "Gimme a Beat" (with K.E.Y.S.) practically makes you jump out of your seat, while "Motor Freaks" (featuring Dilla's brother Illa J) flips a nice panning piano loop and a classic old-school breakbeat. A solid release from the Motor City mic checker.
