Precious Heart

Producer Tall Paul takes the classic INXS ballad "Precious Heart" and attempts to twist it into a techno anthem. But the real question is if the song is even fit for such a treatment, and poor Tall Paul never quite answers that question on the five mixes here. The ambient "Lush Mix" is the best treatment the song gets; clocking in at almost nine minutes, it travels throughout each individual element of the song until it finally blends them into one beautiful symphony. The "Riva Mix" does a good job of incorporating the original song into a techno situation, as does the "Radio Edit." But nothing here really improves the original, making it hard to justify the reasoning behind the remix. It is always nice to have a familiar song on the dancefloor, as Orbital's awesome live remix of "Halycon" or Jason Nevins' assault of Run-D.M.C.'s "It's Like That" have proved. But there has to be a way to make the original song better, and all this mixing accomplishes is to mutate "Precious Heart" into a faster song.
