This CD, their fourth, marked a lot of changes for the band. First, after doing their first three releases independently, they signed to a Canadian label (Borealis, home of Nancy White and other Canadian folk artists). Second, they employed the services of an outside producer, Paul Mills. Third, Rob Ritchie became an official member of the band (he had guested on their previous release, the music in the wood). All of these changes seemed to add up to produce their best CD. It is close to flawless. The energy they seemed to discover on their last CD remained with them, and this CD is almost electric, yet still manages to remain in the traditional folk genre. It is the combination of a tight band, brilliant instrumentation, and incredible harmonies. Also, the melodies of the songs are stronger than ever. The opening cut, "One More Night," is an excellent example of their newfound ability to write incredible melodies that stay with you long after the CD is returned to the jewel case. This CD is could almost be deemed required listening for students or fans of folk music. This is a rich collection of songs that combined make up one terrific album. Once again, the copyright warning is well worth a read.
