[Edit]The year 2000 saw the rise from obscure of Spanish Elefant label from Madrid. Musically speaking, the star artists on this label — Cecelia Ann, Automatics, and Tecnicolor — walk a well-trodden path of '60s- and '70s-inspired pop. Beach Boys production sensibilities and Big Star come into the fold much as in the Creation records wave of the early '90s that spawned the Brit-pop explosion. Tecnicolor adopts the quirk and twist — the ironic end of the guitar-driven pop scene — and delivers a series of postmodern takes on the glorious sound of LULU, the Belmonts, ABBA, and Blondie. The repackaging of such ideas in a charming and snide manner is only sustainable for so long; however, each song on this EP has a spike of wit that is delightfully faux naïve. Spanish pop darlings Los Romeos and Alaska y los Pegamoides are nodded to on more than a few moments. If you like Europop sickly sweet, this is for you.
