Details
[Edit]In 2001, female teenage vocal group Teenhearts, which is comprised of four members, released their self-titled debut album. The credits do not state who sings lead vocals for any given song, but one member obviously handles most of the lead vocals, while the others provide harmony. Other members also sing lead vocals at times, but one voice stands distinctive. As the members are so young, much credit for album's high degree of professionalism goes to producer Larry Hermoso. The girls' voices are strong, but still need some development, which should happen as they mature. Larry Hermoso also composed ten of the album's 13 songs, and the quality of songwriting is strong throughout the album. The group displays its vocal prowess on the soulful "All My Life," which is performed a cappella, and features exciting, doo wop-styled backing vocals. "Pagka't Ikaw Lang" (Because It's Only You) also contains doo wop. The album also includes two strong remakes of international hits: the vivacious "Rhythm of the Night," composed by Dianne Warren, and the tender "Crazy for You," a hit for Madonna. "Crazy for You" is given a bouncy, bass-heavy backbeat here, although the melody retains the tenderness of Madonna's original. Also strong is the Larry Hermoso-composed "Ayoko Na" (I Don't Want), which is sung in a hypnotic minor key and features a dramatic Latin tinge. The closing "Thank You" is a slow, sensuous song and is performed solo by the group's dominant unnamed lead vocalist, accompanied only by piano. Teenhearts have a future.
