Details
[Edit]Four years after its debut album, the Florida-based trio Terra Terra Terra displays impressive artistic growth on its sophomore outing, which finds the group assimilating its influences (Copeland, U2, and Coldplay among them) while sharpening its lyrics and production methods. Loren Taylor’s frantic-to-enraptured vocal style, Tyler Soucey’s splashy drum work, and Matthew Hagelberger’s muscular bass lines remain hallmarks of TTT’s sound. “Crash” and “Someone Like You” are successful ventures into the mainstream that don't compromise the band’s integrity. The tempo-shifting “Better Than Screaming” and the reverb-drenched “Without Forgiveness We’re Savages” are edgier but no less coherent. There are flashes of silken soul-pop (“The Thing Is, I’m Never as Good as When You’re There") as well as churning '80s-style rock (“She Was…Disarming”). Terra Terra Terra saves the best for last with the title track: a grandly unfolding number that captures the band’s distinct mix of spiritual idealism and earthly angst in stately, shimmering tones.
