San Francisco-based robo-punk trio Terry Malts offered up speedy, abrasive flashes of snarky, angular energy with 2013's brief full-length Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere. Somewhere between the larger-than-life personas of Devo, the sophomoric charm of the Descendents, and the dire buzzsaw guitar sentiments of Wire, the trio blasted through a colorfully raw batch of tunes that was over almost before it started. Following up with the Insides EP, the band delivers four tunes that blaze past in just over eight minutes, still with equal parts tunefulness, sarcasm, and eruptive energy. The EP seems designed for repeated plays, but highlights include the sour melodicism of "Grumpiest Old Men," which features guitarist Corey Cunningham on lead vocals, and the band's fuzzy 90-second take on New Zealand pop legends the Chills' "Hidden Bay," which closes out the EP.
