Details
[Edit]After making their debut on Dr. Dre's game-changing classic The Chronic, Tha Dogg Pound (Daz and Kurupt) next costarred on Snoop's Doggystyle before releasing their own excellent first album, Dogg Food, in 1995. They've stayed busy ever since, churning out higher-level gangsta rap via solo projects, group albums, mixtapes, DVDs, and compilations, surviving the pitfalls of various beefs, label drama, fallen homies, and the ever-changing tastes of the hip-hop nation. Doggy Bag mines the vaults of what used to be Suge Knight's iconic G-Funk empire; many of these tracks are previously unreleased jams recorded between 1993 and 1998. Check out "Gigolo" (which would later become Snoop's "Groupie"), the East Coast–dissing "NY '87," "Me in Your World," "Big Pimpin'," and the original mix of their early hit "Let's Play House." Features include Snoop, Nate Dogg, Warren G, and Crooked I, as well as femme fatales Lady of Rage, Jewell, and Michel'le. This is a fantastic compilation, ideal for anyone who grew up listening to Tha Dogg Pound's sun-soaked, G'd-up adventures.
