A fine instrumental showcase by two of the key reggae session bands from the mid-'70s. Often employed by producer Bunny "Striker" Lee and including interchangeable personnel, both the Aggrovators and the Revolutionaries cut the majority of their sides at the legendary Channel One Studios. In line with Lee's penchant for recycling rhythms and churning out truckloads of vocal, DJ, and dub material, both outfits got the chance to record many sides of their own, often featuring group standouts like tenor saxophonist Tommy McCook and alto saxophonist Lester Sterling. The two groups' other stellar members included Sly & Robbie, organist Ansel Collins, guitarist Tony Chin, trumpeter Bobby Ellis, tenor saxophonist Roland Alphonso, and the Barrett Brothers rhythm tandem. This collection brings together some of the collective's top sides, many of which feature plenty of top-notch blowing and unobtrusive, dub-tinged backdrops. Another in a long line of quality instrumental sets spanning the ska, rocksteady, reggae, and dancehall years.
