The 1974 greatest-hits album Endless Summer spurred new interest in the old group, and with Brian Wilson producing and joining the classic lineup of Carl and Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine (Bruce Johnston briefly departed), 1976's 15 Big Ones was a return to form. The Beach Boys accepted their role as keepers of the early rock 'n' roll flame, composing originals in the spirit of their older songs and throwing in classic oldies such as Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music," The Dixie Cups' "Chapel of Love," Freddy Cannon's "Palisades Park," Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill," The Five Satins' "In the Still of the Night," and The Righteous Brothers' "Just Once in My Life." The title's a reference to both the number of songs on the album and the number of years the group had been in the music business at that point.
