After a rather magical five-album run in the mid- to late '60s, The Beau Brummels called it quits—but all the original members reunited for this self-titled 1975 album. For a band so inextricably linked to the '60s, they adapted remarkably well to the new era. The peppy, Merseybeat-influenced side of their sound had fallen by the wayside in favor of the moodier, mellower country- and folk-tinged feel they'd begun exploring on their previous album. The opening track, "You Tell Me Why," is a new version of one of their early cuts, but the rest of the record is full of sweet, supple melodies from guitarist/mastermind Ron Elliott's pen, delivered with characteristic charisma by sad-voiced singer Sal Valentino.
