Before Josephine Foster could escape the Windy City for rural life in Portland, she and Andy Bar were whisked away by Minty Fresh to record a few tracks. What resulted was a fine-spun, endearing set of songs for a self-titled EP. The Children's Hour carefully craft a folk-touched, poetic kind of style. Foster's breathy vocals are a nice compliment to Bar's glassy acoustic guitars for a warm-hearted daydream of sorts. The Children's Hour recorded the album at St. Gregory's Church in their native Chicago and such a setting provides an ethereal mystique to the songs themselves. From the country waltz of "The Lumberjack Song" to the charming two-step of "Wyoming," The Children's Hour EP is plain, but beautifully so. Bidding adieu to what you've discovered on "Going Home" finds the Children's Hour composing their brightest pop effort yet. Their debut is a blissful look at what's yet to come from this experimental duo and a divine listen to what moves them as musicians.
