The debut disc of this lower East Side combo reflects their beer and guts approach working the sloppier side of rock's retro streets. Comparison to the A-Bones is inevitable, as they are on the same label and one of their members was the sax player for that band as well. With drummer Bill Peitsch, guitarists Doug Dellefemine and Jon "Sugarboy" Chalmers and secret-weapon bassist Susan Aprill all sharing vocals (Aprill giving A-Bone Miriam Linna a good run for her money in the screeching department also), this band shines just as strong on originals like "Cryin' Ruth," "Eldorado" and "Pigtails Plaid Skirt" as they do on sainted R&B chestnuts like Ike Turner's "Hoodoo Say" and the Upsetters' "Ale Up," which features Andre Williams sampled into the performance, a Norton first. If you like your retro as sloppy as you can take it with a lot of fun thrown in along the way and very little pretension, this just might be the band you're looking for.
