During his brief life, Brown pioneered a new style of hard bop that remains influential decades after his death. While his original recordings remain the best way to understand his achievements, this 13-track collection is a good introduction to his style for the curious, featuring Brown with such musicians as Zoot Sims, Art Blakey, J.J. Johnson, Horace Silver and Lou Donaldson. Among the featured tracks are "Brownie Speaks," "Brownie Eyes," "Easy Living," "Hymn of the Orient," "Once in a While" and "A Night in Tunisia."
