[Edit]The Cribs are a celebratory rock 'n' roll band that make even the most downtrodden lyric sound like there's a party going on. Consisting of three brothers from Yorkshire, England, The Cribs have that unique intuitiveness that lets them sing in unison or harmony in near-perfect sync. Johnny Marr came, saw, and conquered for 2009's Ignore the Ignorant, but now the trio are back to being the scrappy and primal band nature intended. "Chi-Town" (recorded by Steve Albini in Chicago) is a prime example. Ryan Jarman takes the guitar solo, and all that remains underneath are the bass and drums. There are no secondary guitar lines, no compensating layers. This live rawness makes these tunes sharper and greater than the sum of their parts. "Pure O" adds shimmering points of light. "Jaded Youth" adds slashing guitars to its anthem railing against the trendy set. "Come On, Be a No-One" drives with a snarl on its lips as it brilliantly sums up the angst of youth ("I was trying so hard to enjoy everything that I ended up enjoying nothing"). The acoustic ballad "I Should Have Helped" exposes their tender side.
