Jesse Luscious' voice shows the obvious signs of someone who drinks a lot; with that sloppy tone and perminate drunken slur -which at times resembles Tim "Rancid" Armstrong- guess this is what happens when someone fronts Blatz for as many years as he did. But no way are The Criminal comparable to his former band -aside from Luscious' distinctive vocals- going by there lack of two girl singers and the fact that it's just not as catchy. There are still some fun elements to "Burning Flesh and Broken Fingers, " songs like "The Angry Ouija Board Has Sent Us To Destroy The City of Berkeley California so Run For Your F*****g Life" sound like they're at the brink of falling apart, but in a thrilling sort of way. Still, the loosely put together production might win them some punk points, but it doesn't give The Criminals that "waking up the neighborhood" jolt. Produced by Green Day's Billie Joel if that means anything.
