The possibilities of the "jam" are never-ending when a group of musicians of this caliber gets together. Professor Louie is Aaron Hurwitz, who produced the Band's 1990s albums and has played extensively with members of that group. Joining him in the Crowmatix are his longtime musical partner Miss Marie Spinosa, bassist Michael Dunn, guitarist Mike DeMicco, and onetime Bob Dylan Rolling Thunder Revue member Gary Burke on drums. The Band's Garth Hudson also contributes to several tracks. The album starts with a fairly standard, albeit searing, blues-rocker (Kevin Doherty's "Baby Loves to Boogie"), which only hints at the broad palette to follow. The project melds blues, R&B, and jazz (to name a few genres) and rockets off on mind-boggling extended jams that display a road-seasoned collective sharply attuned to each other. Highlights include the boisterous fun of the instrumental "Mr. Luck," the otherworldly jazz of "Chick's Break Song," the smoldering blues of "Bump in the Night," and that's only the tip of the iceberg. When this kind of talent jams, look out.
