Details
[Edit]The Devil Dogs' '90s pop-punk is filtered through equal amounts of the New York Dolls' snotty trash ("North Shore Bitch" is pure David Johansen comic disgust), Ramones' bubble punk (pretty much every one of these 31 songs is predicated on the format perfected on da brudders' first album), Nuggets-style garage raunch and good old-fashioned early rock & roll joy. Besides revved-up covers of the likes of "Palisades Park" and "Be True To Your School," originals like "Ball Me Out" and "Gimme That Girl" are built on sweetly poppy three-chord tunes and good-bad-but-not-evil poses. The only problem with this particular addition to their extensive canon is that a double-album-length collection of songs in a style best heard on either side of a 7" single means that listener fatigue sets in eventually. 30 Sizzling Slabs! is best heard in small, EP-size doses.
