Details
[Edit]Formed in Louisville, Kentucky in 1978, the Endtables released one four-song EP and eventually a posthumous single. Those tracks are collected here along with six live cuts and an unedited version of the captivating “Process of Elimination” to make for a 2010 debut album. The group captures the magic of ‘70s punk, playing with a reckless energy that threatens to topple the band at any moment. The tight grit of “The Defectors” and “They’re Guilty” include backing vocals that recall the Buzzcocks and lead vocals from singer Steve Rigot that are pure American punk rock. The guitar solos pack the punch of vintage Black Flag solos, recalling early rock ‘n’ roll as they skewer near atonality. The live cuts are muddier and include several tunes (“Europe,” “Break the Bank Break the Figurine”) that show the band had even more to give. It’s delightfully unexpected to find something this good at such a late date. It makes you wonder what else is out there waiting to be rediscovered.
