Details
[Edit]The Freddy Jones Band's fourth release on Capricorn Records, Lucid, finds them traveling down a familiar road. Tracks like the modest radio hit "Wonder" and "California" sound eerily similar to past efforts. Despite the analogous overtones, the band has again fully collaborated on a project that warrants merit and attention. All of the bandmembers made a contribution to the record, and while Wayne Healy and Marty Lloyd share most of the vocal responsibilities, lead guitarist Rob Bonaccorsi takes over on "Come on Back," a laid-back jazzy track that adds a horn section to create a vibe reminiscent of Chicago. Bonaccorsi's guitar work dominates a large portion of Lucid. Even when the band brings the intensity down a notch and drives a song like "She Said" with acoustic guitars, Bonaccorsi steps in to show off his prowess in the form of a scorching solo. Fans of the band will find comfort in the customary formulaic roots rock approach to the work, while newcomers to the band may want to start with a previous album.
