The first full-length production by this band quickly establishes an identity that perhaps is suggested by their choppy debut EP for Homestead. It is really a rootsier direction than that label affiliation might suggest, tempered by lead singer, songwriter, and bandleader Karl Straub's extremely melodic vocals and, more important, uplifting lyrical gifts. "It Doesn't Matter" is typical of this band's anthems, but typically loses a bit of its sheen due to overall similarity of sound amongst this disc's 14 tracks. The performances definitely benefit from what sounds like just enough honing through live performance. Guitarist Randy Austin didn't stay in the band, and adds a raunchy psychedelic style here that is reminiscent of mid-period Love.
