One-half of the beloved mid-‘90s act Group Home, (also tight with Brainsick Mob), Lil Dap rocks a nasally flow that is instantly recognizable to fans of golden-era boom-bap. Group Home blew up on the strength of their classic DJ Premier-produced 1995 album Livin' Proof, only to descend into rap oblivion (much like Jeru the Damaja, Paula Perry, etc) once parting ways with Preemo. Post-millennium, they reemerged with a slew of overseas performances, and in 2008 Dap released his surprisingly dope solo debut on NYC indie Babygrande Records. With strong tracks courtesy of Alchemist, Large Professor, DJ JS-1, and Dap himself, I.A.DAP embraces the vintage New York sound, reintroducing him to a new generation while also treating old heads to a welcome and familiar voice. With features from Guru, Treach, and Big Noyd there's a lot of great stuff on here, most notably "In My Life Time," "Long Way From BK," "Rasta," and the reunion joint "Real Group Home," featuring his old partner-in-rhyme Malachi the Nutcracker.
