[Edit]After acquiring a decent amount of Canadian success with Doberman and Tiger Comet, albums whose hammering, metalesque thrash sets out to take no prisoners, the Kittens released In Bazooka & the Hustler, an effort they rather optimistically fancy to be country inspired. It's true that the album features a few dirty rockabilly touches and general references to barroom twang, but the focus is still firmly on the band's rampaging grind, which will probably strike some listeners as a return to the heart of rock, and others as almost humorously intense and monochromatic. Either way, it's difficult not to be impressed on some level, no matter how many hundreds of North American bands have tread (and will continue to tread) this ground.
