Details
[Edit]Latin soul became so desperate for new ideas that it was inevitable that several bands would turn to glorifying drug use. In the case of the Lat-Teens, ironically enough, pot did not lead to harder things, only more of the same. Their first album's hit was "Mary Wanna," and here the cash-in sequel is "Smoke Shop." What will their parents think? In any case, this is a rare and very capable Cotique band, which is all that serious Latin-soul collectors need to know. "(That Little Black Girl Is A) Soulful Thing" is typically labored but infectious. The pace is generally tokingly lazy, and the horns can harshen the buzz, but the singing makes it all worthwhile — at least until the smoke clears.
