Life of Riley's debut CD is a blend of melodic alternative CCM and hard rock. It's an amiable, spiritual album. It's got a certain nostalgic flair to it, and sounds more like it was released in the late '90s than 2006; comparisons to Matchbox Twenty are unavoidable. There's a sense that this album has already been made, a few times, a few years ago. Still, Days Away from Life isn't completely void of sustenance. Crunchy guitars and a shattering guitar solo give depth to "Feel" and melodic guitar hooks make Cassidy Campbell's passé croon almost bearable on "Collide." Days Away from Life is a fine start and the band has talent; unfortunately, the heyday for adult alternative pop/rock has long since passed.
