Live At Leeds (The Who?)

The Macc Lads' third album was a live behemoth that returned their traditional clatter and bombast to its natural habitat, then buried everything beneath a wall of so much foulness and fun that even the familiar songs take on a whole new maddening meaning. First album favorite "Charlotte" wades in with an extra verse; "Ben Nevis" and "Bloik" make their vinyl debuts (both would reappear on the following year's From Beer to Eternity); the "Blockbuster" rewrite "Fat Bastard" becomes an almost mantric meditation...(no wonder Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine found it so irresistible); and, if you've ever wanted to hear the sound of several hundred drunken concertgoers bellowing "F**k Off" in harmonic unison, the sad saga of "Miss Macclesfield" is the one for you. And through it all, the Macc Lads' punk rock credentials shine through with more passion and panache than you will find within a dozen of their more...shall we say "politically correct"...comrades. Foul-mouthed, frenetic and brain-damagingly funny, the Macc Lads are all a good night out ought to be. And this is the sound of one of the best nights of all.
