The Mishaps may be a small part of the larger punk revival, but their approach suggests the classic intensity and power of the Los Angeles scene. Clocking in at a brief six tracks, Get Away Volume is a nostalgic journey into the trashy, rockabilly influenced punk rock landscape of 1983, when bands like T.S.O.L. and the Dead Kennedys took the genre to edgy new heights. Nothing here comes close to that sort of originality, but aping that sound is a shockingly scarce tactic amongst the Mishaps' contemporaries. Winding surf guitar licks maniacally drive the songs along, riding high on the snotty vocals of Neal Page and the manic pounding of drummer John Fatur. There's nothing new about what's going on here, but on the other hand they do it with such panache that Get Away Volume eventually wins over the listener.
