Details
[Edit]Take a Ride with the Modeens' opening instrumental sounded like the Yardbirds' "I Wish You Would" before it was noticed that the band covers Eric Clapton's '60s London greats' 1965 number nine version of Graham Gouldman's "Heart Full of Soul." Ditto, "The Day Will Come" might be the Standells' "Dirty Water" with male-female vocal tradeoffs. And so it goes with this Tucson duo, who must have great R&B, blues, and '60s rock in their collections. Witness the Chess-like harmonica blowing sleazy on "Thang"; i.e., "You've got that thang," something Willie Dixon, both Sonny Boy Williamsons, and Alex Chilton would appreciate. It's hard, happy, and just raunchy enough (there's even effective later '60s psych pop on "Better Late Than Never"), as the sunglassed bassist Christina Williams and guitarist/keyboardist/engineer/producer Jamie Laboz have a fine time kicking out vintage jams. ~ Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, Rovi
