[Edit]Looking Back once again demonstrates Phillips, Grier & Flinner's intrinsic, free-flowing rapport, this time on a selection of traditional material and covers. They stray into novelty territory with a note-perfect rendition of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," but "Little Wing" is surprisingly well adapted, as is Mongo Santamaria's "Afro Blue." As much as this disc is a group effort, however, it is very much David Grier's show, especially on the faster numbers. His playing is beautiful, as startling as ever, and his dense, magnificently constructed solos on "Dixie Hoedown" are something for every aspiring picker to build a dream on.
