This 25-track compilation presents the ten tracks the Pied Pipers recorded for Capitol Records in 1943 and 1944 while Jo Stafford was still a member of the group, plus three tracks on which the Pipers, with Stafford's replacement, June Hutton, backed up their former lead singer, and 12 tracks by the Hutton-era group recorded through 1948. Capitol Records' own 1992 compilation, the 20-track Capitol Collectors' Series, focused more on the Hutton period, including only four Stafford tracks and featuring more of the Hutton-era hits. This set is more varied, including the Pipers' biggest hits, "The Trolley Song," "Dream," "Mam'selle" and "My Happiness," but also featuring such guest performers as Johnny Mercer and Andy Russell. And, of course, it will find favor with Jo Stafford fans.
