Details
[Edit]The Pop Group were never pop. They were an aggressive, forward-thinking, legendary group from Bristol, England, that helped put the “post” in postpunk. This reissue of the 1980 rarities compilation We Are Time is part of a greater reissue program that includes the additional rarities collection Cabinet of Curiosities and future projects. Singer Mark Stewart and saxophonist Gareth Sager battle here for the front lines, while the rhythm section is positively funky and brutal. The studio demos for “Trap” and “Sense of Purpose” are neat and compact compared to the mad aggression that highlights the live performances (“Thief of Fire,” the title track).
