[Edit]With four different reworkings of “Promises” from their third album Pacifica, The Presets turn one song into four. Parisian producer Lifelike (Laurent Ash) opens with a remix that starts on an awesomely layered drum flourish that tapers out into a heavy four-on-the floor beat as a 1980s flavored bass synthesizer serves up the foundation for a dance floor groove. But its when those phased synthesizers come in and sparkle like a lost New Order gem that the song really takes shape. Los Angeles (by way of Sydney, Australia) producer Felix Bloxsom (A.K.A. Plastic Plates) keeps closer to the tune’s original electro-pop leanings, replete with period-correct tones to create a five-and-a-half minute remix that sounds like something you could only buy on 12-inch vinyl back in 1986. Finnish house producer Luomo (Sasu Ripatti) filters “Promises” through microhouse, a subgenre wherein the percussion is forged from minimalist click sounds rubbing against the grain of deep dub-flavored bass lines. A beautiful mix inspired by the classical piano of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky closes the EP thanks to Berlin producer Nils Frahm.
