Details
[Edit]Designed as a stopgap offering between albums, the Queers' Summer Hits, No. 1 revisits 15 of the band's classics with a new lineup. Drummer Dusty Watson, bassist Philip Hill (a veteran of the Teen Idols), and the group's lone original member, singer/guitarist Joe Queer, blow through a catalog of pop-punk classics with joy and ease. Standouts like the amusing "Kicked Out of the Webelos" and the Ramones-like "Psycho Over You" (repeated from 2002's excellent Pleasant Screams) affirm that the Queers — with their regularly homophobic and sexist lyrics — are deep in the hearts and minds of immature white adolescent males. It's uncertain why early nuggets like "I Met Her at the Rat," "We'd Have a Riot Doing Heroin," and "I Want C**t" didn't make the cut, but perhaps revisions of these Queers standards will surface on No. 2. ~ John D.
