Details
[Edit]When the Rebel Pebbles signed with IRS Records in the early 1990s, the label no doubt had hopes of duplicating its prior success with the Go-Gos. Like the Go-Gos, the Rebel Pebbles were an all-female band from Los Angeles that specialized in exuberant pop-rock and showed an awareness of the girl-group sound of the early to mid-1960s. It's impossible to review the Pebbles without mentioning the Go-Gos — their influence is all over Girls Talk, although the songs aren't nearly as clever or as inspired. Clearly the best tune on the CD, "No More Cryin'" is undeniably catchy. But most of the other songs are quite forgettable, and one wishes the band would strive for originality. Girls Talk was as unsuccessful commercially as it was artistically.
