[Edit]The Sand Band is approved by Britrock royalty. Singer/guitarist David McDonnell spent time in Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, as well as with The Coral and Richard Ashcroft. Following this EP's lilting acoustic intro, “Open Invitation”—where Mellotron woodwinds intertwine with harp-toned guitars and gossamer vocal harmonies—trace elements of McDonnell’s musical past surface in the shimmering title track. You can almost hear the crackling of smoldering timber on “Burn This House,” an eerily beautiful folk song that blends sublime pump-organ drones with baritone spaghetti western guitars. With vintage amps and soothing vocals that hint at more subversive tendencies, The Sand Band makes for a compelling listen.
