The Seekers

This 12-song LP is an abridged version of their first overseas album, which had been released (with 16 songs) as Introducing the Seekers. All but one of the tracks on this collection are taken from the 16-song counterpart. At this point, the Seekers were still playing solely traditional folk material, arranged in the style of Peter, Paul & Mary. It's well-sung and the harmonies are good, but the songs are missing the pop melodies, fuller arrangements, and original material that were essential to the Seekers' more familiar hit records. It's tame early- to mid-'60s commercial folk, the emphasis on too-common standards like "This Train," "If I Had a Hammer," "Kumbaya," "All My Trials," and "Lonesome Traveller." For that reason it's only recommended to dedicated Seekers fans, and if you're dedicated, you should try to somehow find Introducing the Seekers, which has four songs not on this album (although The Seekers has one song, "When Stars Begin to Fall," that didn't make it onto Introducing the Seekers).
