[Edit]Where the 2006 debut album from Indonesia’s Super Insurgent Group of Intemperance (a.k.a. The Sigit) drew comparisons to Wolfmother, the band’s 2009 Hertz Dyslexia is a bit more complex and sophisticated. Though often mislabeled as an EP, Hertz Dyslexia is the first part of a double album. The opening cut, “Money Making,” kicks out Motor City–sized jams à la The MC5, as frontman and guitarist Rekti Yoewono goes head-to-head with lead guitarist Farri Icksan Wibisana over a hard-driving rhythm section, which grooves with the muscled power of Grand Funk Railroad in that band's Don Brewer and Mel Schacher era. The following “Bhang” downshifts to a bluesy garage rocker that’s closer to The Black Keys (but with a bass). The band then does a U-turn from hard-throttled garage rock to West Coast folk-rock with a cover of Neil Young’s “Only Love Can Break Your Heart”; it's both emotional and endearing. The Sigit returns to high-energy rock ‘n’ roll with “Verge of Puberty,” a feverish standout that drives a great ball of Jerry Lee Lewis–inspired libido through loud tube amps the size of refrigerators.
